Performance anxiety is misplaced attention.
We work with tons of high performing athletes and executives. I’ve been studying them since 1993 as my profession. Performance anxiety is reaching epidemic levels. Why? As our world has over-valued safety and certainty, our elite have fallen prey to self absorption. Instead of focusing on the act of doing whatever their doing to the best of their ability, they give attention to not doing whatever it is wrong. Damn.
This is misplaced attention. Focus on your purpose and passion. Focus your mind on the task at hand, you know. Performance anxiety is misplaced attention. Others cannot fix yours. Only you can change your mind.
Focus your mind on doing hard things well. Commit to doing them. Period. Embrace the fact that you’ll get messy doing them not so well for awhile. Focus the mind away from fear and onto the act of doing. You’re not in control. Never have been. Never will be. E + R does not equal O. Kick performance anxiety in the ASS. Stop resulting your sorriness and instead focus on the process. Get out of your self absorbed head. Focus on doing. Replace performance anxiety with a masters edge. Anxiety to edgy. Tough teammates come to love the edge. You?
Do more of what scares you. Do more of what gets you lit? Do more than you think. Do more. Damn. Good.
Live hard. Love harder…
