Brings perspective. Kids going back to school and the seasons turning their corner into fall makes it feel like GAME TIME for the business community. It’s awesome and jam packed but time and space to reflect can quickly slip away. The problem with this is we can get so focused on what is in front of us we forget to use our tools (CORE, OPUS(s), PoP) and ensure they are still fine-tuned enough to reach the mountain top ahead.
I recently noticed this pattern in myself as the days were moving too quick. I didn’t fully realize I was in this state until I pulled myself out of it for two specific short bursts of time. One was for a hot yoga class (which I had not done for 4 years) and another was via a massage. Two very random places for clarity come but both had the same raw ingredients: no phones, lots of breathing, time for your brain to process its internal inbox to get to the truth beyond the fact set. I came out of both of those short experiences with WAY more clarity than I had going in.
You don’t always need a multi-day retreat or off-site to get realigned, although I am a believer in both those. In busy seasons, we need to carve out specific time in specific environments that break up the game in hopes we can slow the brain and body down.
What is a 1-2 hour activity you MUST find time for in the next several weeks that completely detaches you from your routine, especially technology? Remember every sport has time outs for a reason. Call one for yourself before the game gets away from you.
