How are MY Ratios?

A BUILT TO LEAD fundamental for every leader in work AND life is watching their “ratios.” NOT financial ratios, but the “vibes” (usually in the form of non-verbal cues in body language or tone) we all send to one another. Your “ratio” is the number of “positive vibes” you send versus “negative vibes”. When we are under pressure in challenging times like these, it’s easy for our ratios to get out of whack!

You can read more about “ratios” in blogs Chet posted about inspired marriages and inspired teams. . .

It’s easier to see SOMEONE ELSE’s ratios more clearly than our own, because we all have BLIND SPOTS. To keep ratios from getting out of whack, BUILT TO LEAD leaders and teams INITIATE seeking & providing feedback to one another. In another blog, Chet called this Adjust your Mirrors . . .and the sooner we do this the better. Why? Because the longer we wait to give & receive feedback, the greater the costs, and often the SCARIER it is for both parties — instead of a glance it takes a punch in the nose!

Finally, don’t miss this (yes it’s HUGE). START with getting your ratios right with YOURSELF. What are the ratios of your INNER voice? HOW do you talk to yourself? What is the TONE of your inner voice? If you had a little mirror by your desk, what would you see 9 out of 10 times — the face of someone living out their OPUS, or someone DRIVING themself like a mule?

Remember, BUILT TO LEAD leaders lead SELF first. So get your ratios right with yourself, and see if others don’t immediately see a change in your ratios toward them.

  1. johnnytherue,

Great ratios here. However, here’s another ratio that I would like you to work on. Your ratio of great posts to not so great ones is 100-1. Do you know what this means?

    Write. Write. Write.

Remember, you are johnnytherue and I want to hear your VOICE….

    Moving on.

  2. I’ll second the first comment! I read your comments after the”Reunited” blog post outloud in my office to a few others. Brett said, that dude can write.
I look forward to your thoughts and writing too Johnny.
    Thanks
