In 1999 we were shocked by the news of the Columbine High School shootings. The entire country mourned as if we had lost one of our own.
Claire Davis died this past Saturday evening. Claire was shot in her high school, Arapahoe, just down the road from Columbine. I missed this almost entirely. My client couldn’t if he wanted to. My client resides in the community around Arapahoe. His daughter knew Claire. He knows the family. Today, as we spoke, I felt his pain.
Today, I’m praying for the Davis family, my client, his family, and the community of Arapahoe. Their hearts are beyond heavy. As you remember the blessings of this season don’t forget the flip side of same coin. Blessings come with burdens. Doesn’t make much sense until it does. Today, lighten someone’s load. Listen. Be with. It does NOT take a lot.
God, be with the Davis family and all the families burdened with this loss. God, help us remember our vulnerability and seek your refuge. God, help us move toward those in pain. God, help us. God, help me gain your perspective. God, help me make sense of what seems so senseless. God, help us all.
And, I’ll try to remember that burdens come with blessings too…
