Spock felt nothing. Jesus wept. Today, most men more resemble Spock than our Savior. Why? Seems most men have trouble with their temper. Like one of my clients recently told me, most of us run away when we begin to feel flooded with emotion. Why? Unlike Jesus, most of us get flooded by triggers – tears, not so much. So, we run. Some, like my client, run to their room. Some run away. Some barricade themselves behind a fortress. Nothing harmful gets in, therefore, nothing harmful comes out. The problem is nothing helpful either…
Jesus wept because He felt anothers pain. And then anothers. And then anothers. And then anothers. He allowed Himself to feel. His heart, you see, was built to take it. Jesus paid it forward. Men mostly pay it back. Today, as I’m taking time out to deliver gifts to those that pay me, I’m reminded of how unevolved my heart. I’m overly tuned to my feelings and undertuned to yours. I’m afraid of giving too much and being taken for granted. I don’t know how to practice gratitude without applauding my own effort. My heart, you see, still suffers from some stress fractures, so to speak. I keep score and still kinda cheat toward me…
This Christmas I pray you will feel the joy of giving. Someday, I hope to enjoy the gift of giving as freely as our Father. Someday. Today, I’ll just be thankful and give a little, anyway. Thanks, God, for paying it forward for me. Thanks for feeling all our pain. Thanks for the tears. Thanks…

At BUILT TO LEAD, we preach that Leaders are Believers and Leaders are Connectors.
Leaders connect us through the LOVE they give us. You can be A-LONE without receiving love, but you can’t be ALL-ONE unless you do. ‘Love’ is the “one ‘L of a difference.” Believers are Receivers.
That’s the Word-view of our Creator and Savior because God IS love. And yet even when our Savior was born, “there was no room in the inn” because there has always been “one ‘L of a difference” between the WorLd’s-view, which says God’s Word-view is a LIE and can’t be trusted. Spocks have no room in the inn of their guarded hearts and can’t receive because of what they be-LIE-ve.
Leaders expect sabotage — and give anyway. They love anyway. That’s what love does. That’s what a Spock named Scrooge experienced on Christmas morning when he became a believer and a receiver — and in doing so a giver.
God thank you for your “one ‘L of a difference.” God save us. God, awaken, challenge, and transform us into becoming ONE — one distinct AND deeply connected that is BUILT TO LEAD.
