Last night, Miss, Tay, Doc, Doc’s dad, and little Benny, joined me to watch the movie it seems all of America’s gotta see – American Sniper. Miss never goes to these kinda flicks with me but there she was last night taking it all in and just sitting there when it ended thinking, reflecting, and feeling some kinda grateful for American soldiers like Chris Kyle. A couple of our nephews serve currently and one is a sniper, so Miss wanted to catch a glimpse and walked out catching much more. Just like me, Miss was moved by this movie. Good movies move us. It is good to be moved…
Unbroken did NOT move many. The movie didn’t tell Louis Zamperini’s story because it’s Director, Angelina, edited out the most important piece – Louis’s fall and redemptive rise upon his return home. Clint Eastwood made Chris come to life because he showed us all sides of his conflicted, conscientious, and protective nature. Clint showed us Chris’s rage and how he found himself as he transitioned back through helpful therapy and giving himself to troubled souls. As I’ve read a few thoughts from his widow, Taya, I’m struck with a pattern I’ve noticed. She closes many of her musings with a verse, Micah 6:8. “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Thanks Chris, Taya, and Clint for humbly telling us your story. God help us all live lives worthy of such sacrifice. Good…
