Humans do not leave systems, they leave humans – usually they leave their leader. Do not miss this. This could be huge. High performers mostly leave because they don’t feel like they’re heard. Nothing frustrates high performers more than feeling like they’re misunderstood. So, leader, stop the rush to judge and the rush to answer questions. Listen. Ask the high performer to tell you more. Keep them speaking while you continuously listen and give them body language that says you are beginning to get them. You don’t need to say a thing. Lean in. Smile sincerely. Open your mind by way of your ears.
Humans, especially high performing ones, want your ears. Stop using your damn mouth so much. Stop the word vomit. Stop speaking over them. Stop speaking period. Listen. Be all ears. Good.
