Day 181: Stretch your strengths…

I will never forget the day I met Kitty Allen.

We were about two weeks into the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic and the whole world had just shut down. My wife was pregnant and I had just quit my job to jump into the deep end of becoming a Built to Lead builder. On that day, I was beyond the challenge zone, I was in the panic zone.

I called Chet and he just told me I had a weak core, per usual. However, one incredibly positive thing came out of the conversation in that we scheduled our first meeting of the minds of all the Built to Lead builders.

That Friday morning, Chet took the reins and we all went around the horn sharing our thoughts on “why are you here.” Chester always has a plan whether you like it or not and of course he saved the worst for last: me.

I spewed something out, Chet called bullshit.  He hit me with the classic “I don’t believe you” line and hit me hard in front of the builders, some of whom were just meeting each other for the first time.

I was used to Chet barking at me like that but it was actually what Kitty told me that I would never forget.  Her words were CCD and brilliant:  Once you turn your passion for Built to Lead into your purpose, then you will be prepared to do this work.

This doesn’t seem like a hard hit but it seared me like a reverse sear steak. I had lots of work to do.

That initial band call turned into a weekly labor of love for all 10 (plus TLC) of us. Kitty always speaks from her heart and shares more truth in love than anyone of us. Which is why it’s an honor to pass the blog to her for the month of July.

Kitty – thank you for the truth in love, and for pushing me and this entire band to stretch our strengths. I can’t wait to see where you take us over the next 31 days. The summer is about to really heat up!

Thanks to everyone who followed along over the past 30 days. It’s been a true joy. Until next time… Cheers.
