What it’s like…

All humans are hurting more than they show. You see, friend, if it’s true that life is hard and the great life is found when learning to love hard things, then it only makes sense we’re gonna have to embrace some pain and suffering along the way. And, most humans only understand what it’s like to walk a mile in their own shoes. Most humans believe “some people” got it good and they aren’t those chosen few, you know. Here’s truth. All humans hurt.

The rich, poor, starters, subs, benchwarmers, stars, studs, and of course the duds. But what about the dudes? What about the beauties and the babies born with silver spoon, you know? All human hurt, even those that seemingly always smile.

During sacred BTL band practice this Friday, one of the band was hurting and hiding. First world problems, you know, not worth bothering anybody ‘bout. So, I asked him a simple, curious question and kept going until truth spilled out his mouth. He was hurting and here’s the truth. We all know what it’s like to hurt and feel a lone. We all know what it’s like to sing the blues and not know if anybody gives a damn. We all know what it’s like to have to chose to lose. Only a few, however, get out of their head and into another’s heart. And, ain’t none of us able to know what it’s like for more than a few.

So, friend, you live with hurting humans. Your neighbors, coworkers, and performers of every sort and shape, are hurting. Tune in to a few. Trust your instincts and get curious. Remember what it’s like to hurt and be too afraid to ask for help. Thanks, Jimmygant for the reminder from 1998 and the song What it’s like, by Everlast. It. Is. Worth. A. Listen. God, help me tune into a few. God, help me…

Live hard. Love harder…

  1. …to have to choose to lose… an interesting idea. Do we all know that feeling? I’m not sure I do. Losing is part of life… sad, but true. However, I don’t think I have ever CHOSEN to lose. Have you?
