
You build leaders, CEO, by not doing their job. Today’s practice had me reminding another CEO he’s doing one of his leaders job. This builds followers. Builds dependency. Builds, eventually, an Eor kinda culture – Why bother, the boss will eventually just do it.
You build leaders by making them do their job. Hold your leaders accountable, leader of leaders. Do not own the tension beneath them. Teach them. Challenge them. Be clear your expectations. Replace them when it’s clear they don’t have the will or the skill to lead to your standard. Build leaders. Work yourself out of a job. You’ll never be more valuable than when you’re not needed.
