More good Reads…

In the back of the 12 and 8 books are recommend reading lists for each Essential. The minute these are published they are out of date as the reading and learning never ends. I always get client requests for new reads so here are a few of my recent ones and a couple quick thoughts. Enjoy and Happy New Year. Talk to you in 2008.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini was a page turner. I polished this one off in one sitting and highly recommend. Very good one to push your Worldview.

Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks was another one of my curious reads around music and the brain. I found a couple nuggets but would only recommend this for very curious student of the brain.

Amazing Grace by Eric Metaxas is the story of William Wilberforce. You’ve most likely heard me rant about this one enough. Very well done and full of insight into the man and his mission.

What is The What by Dave Eggers is the story of “The Lost Boys” of Sudan. Another Worldview stretcher. You will be uncomfortable.

The Big Moo by Seth Godin my favorite blogger. This guy just keeps putting out thoughts that resonate with me.

American Creation by Joseph Ellis is another story about our founders. This one is fairly balanced between their virtue and their vice. I enjoyed and think you will as well.

The End of America is another Worldview stretcher by Naomi Wolf. She will make most conservatives break out in hives. Just keep reading. IT will be good for you.

My favorite of the bunch is the new one from Michael Maccoby. He’s the guy who gave us the Productive Narcissist which was a great read a couple years ago. His latest is The Leaders We Need and it’s really insightful. Do NOT miss this one.

I just finished The Three Signs of A Miserable Job by Patrick Lencioni and found it less than satisfying. His books are really quick reads that always give you a nugget or two. One of my colleagues recommended this one so my expectations might just have been too high. Check it out.

Recent re-reads are 10 Lessons to Transform Your Marriage by John and Julie Gottman, The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis, and Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield.

Next up are as follows:

The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein

The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen

Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell

Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy

Judgement by Tichey/Bennis

Human Sigma by John Fleming

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

The biggest knock I’ve heard on President Bush of late, there are many, is that he is NOT a reader. I cannot understand how any President can survive much less thrive leading today or any day for that matter without loving to learn.
