Smart…

Yesterday, during a couple team practices, it hit me how far off course we’ve fallen as we’ve evolved of late. One of my instagram posts did it. Some hotel is offering spiffs to guests who will put their phones in an empty fishbowl during their stay. You have got to be kidding me. We are enslaved by a tool designed to make us smarter.

Not smart.

Someone recently told me that BTL practice is a luxury. He’s right, of course. So are my cars, club memberships, dinners out, bikes, fancy clothes, kettlebells, TRX’s, and all kinds of other stuff. There is nothing inherently wrong with enjoying life’s luxury, as long as you don’t allow them to own you. Your smart phone is a luxurious tool. Own it. Do not allow it to own you. If you find yourself needing hacks to loosen it’s grip on you, you should have a level five fire alarm reverberating in your head. You are not using your mind, in fact, you are losing it.

Not smart.

I have a dumb phone by design and zero plans to upgrade. Zero. None. Nada. No need. I’m not missing out on anything. I use technology and have figured out how to make it work for me. You have to figure out how to use tools you can afford and how to limit yourself from taking advantage of everything you can afford. Don’t do what I’m doing or what your teammates are doing. Figure it out and own your way. Do not wait for someone/something else to govern you, you govern you. Whatever your aim in this life, you have very few real needs.

Food. Rest. Love.

Eat real food as a starter, mostly plants. Get plenty of sleep. Love God, love people, and love giving away your gifts for less than they’re worth. Start here with these basics. I’m quite confident you’ll figure out the rest, once you realize that your luxurious tools aren’t the real problem but you’re lack of a strong core, authentic aim, and discipline of productive action, is. We are our own worst enemy, aren’t we. Wake up, friends. Live life by design, not default. Own your decisions. Start with food, rest, love. Simple, not easy. I’m confident you’re figuring this out and not waiting for some Hotel hack to do it for you. Good.

Smart.
