In the same direction…

I’m rereading Eugene Petersons book titled A long Obedience in the Same Direction. First read this beauty twenty years ago. Took one page of notes. Hit me, but not that hard. The book is ripping my heart out this go ‘round. I’m running out of room in the front of the book for my note taking and only halfway through.

The books the same. I’m not.

You’re a leader, right? Read, rich, thought provoking books. Read books that feel like they’re just out of reach. Write your thinking. Date stamp each reread. Good.

A troubled athlete approached me recently with a serious question. He asked me what’s the difference between a man and a boy. Great question, huh. I looked him in the eye and said one word.

Perspective.

A boy sees from a very limited perspective. He’s the center of it. A man sees from a wide angle lens. He has changed from self centered to CORE centered. From other controlling toward self controlling. Same holds true for a girl vs a woman. Whatever you’re chasing, be a man. It’s going to take longer than you think, cost more than you’ve wagered, and require sticking to disciplines even when you can’t see the shore. So, what’s changed in you of late? When we read your story will we see the evolution of a woman or the pettiness of a girl? You, friend, are like a book. You worth a reread? Slow down. Reflect. Write. Widen perspective. God, help me see through your lens. God, help me man up. God, help me.

Live hard. Love harder…
