Champions…

“Among the top 100 players, physically there is not much difference…It’s a mental ability to handle the pressure, to play well at the right moments.” Novak Djokovic

“Mind is everything. Muscle – just pieces of rubber. All that I am, I am because of my mind.” Paavo Nurmi – 9 time Olympic Gold medalist

“The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one is watching.” Note to Mia Hamm from Anson Dorrance (UNC Women’s soccer coach)

“Chop wood. Carry water.” Ancient Zen saying

Champions are champions of the fundamentals. They over prepare but don’t overthink. Champions master the mind and the craft. Champions say follow me. They embrace pain and suffering and embody truth in love. Champions keep chunking it out when everyone else cops a WTF attitude. Champions keep working, you know. They marry the mundane. They love the team and love the work. Champions are built when no one sees. The crucible reveals what’s been in them all the while. Fact.

Under pressure what oozes out of you, athlete? Answer. What’s inside.

This is why doing CORE work matters more. Your worldview, identity, principles, purposes, passions, and process are not built in MOT (Moments of truth) – only revealed. Build your inner life now. Build a strong CORE before you really need it. Never stop. Slow down. Reflect. Everyone wants to be champion of the world. Only the few have a mind to match the muscle. You?

Live hard. Love ❤️ harder. Chop the f$%&ing wood…
